Getting older is no excuse to become inactive, in fact it should be your wake up call to MOVE. This may seem contrary to popular opinion, but time and time again research points to exercise as way to combat the effects of aging. Muscle mass decreases in your thirties and as you get older the rate of decrease grows exponentially, if you don’t step in and do something you’ll spend your remaining years struggling with everyday tasks. It’s simple “If you don’t use it you lose it”, do you want a higher quality of life as you get older, or are you simply satisfied with quantity.
A great example and someone I’ve come to greatly respect is Ken Stover. He signed up for CrossFit and Fearless in May of 2017 at the age of 58 to workout alongside his son Rob who was prepping to join the Army. Ken came in weighing 305lbs and his blood pressure was around 140/100mmHg! Even with his large frame these numbers pointed to all things going wrong and he knew he had to get his health in check. More so, this former Army Ranger, was disappointed in himself for letting it happen. He tells me, “It’s easy to let yourself gain weight, it hard to lose it”
In a little less than a year Ken has gone from 305lbs and a blood pressure of ~140/100 mmHg to a current weight of 240lbs and a BP 120/78mmHg! His cholesterol has also dropped and his doctor couldn’t be happier in the direction his health is going. Ken now takes on all exercises from Burpees to Tireflips…, oh yeah he also Snatches, Cleans, and Squats BELOW PARALLEL.
His reasons for sticking with it are simple:
1) Something different everyday “I hate the damn treadmill”
2) The People
3) It’s encouraged better eating habits.
